Enjoying Vogel State Park

Despite the winter weather here in North Georgia (think occasional sub-freezing temps and lots of cold rain), we have been enjoying Valhalla for a night sleepover occasionally. We have kept her at R-Ranch in the Mountains and also moved over to the all-Airstream Top of Georgia park north of Helen. These overnight stays have allowed us to figure out how to use the space and be comfortable. This past weekend, we decided to go somewhere and stay for a few days. This is a logistical challenge because we have four dogs and they definitely all can't go with us so we have to find a house/dog-sitter each time.

We booked a spot at the last second at Vogel State Park which is about 45 minutes from our home. I took Valhalla over on Friday afternoon and set everything up. Chauna came over after work with Beau (one of four dogs). We had a nice pork tenderloin with wild rice for dinner. Saturday, we went to the Cottage Winery for a 5K race (which was more like an interval training session running up and down a steep vineyard).

After enjoying wine there for a couple of hours, we went back to the campground to be joined by our friends Steve and Casey, my daughter Elisabeth and her fiancé Ryan and our granddaughter Olivia. With Ryan's excellent coaching, we enjoyed some really nice honey-glazed Pittsburgh-style filets cooked on our Big Green Egg Mini-Max.

Sunday we were visited by Todd and Keri and my son Doug. Keri and Todd brought us ribs, salad and deviled eggs for our enjoyment which were amazing.

On Monday, we went to get our second vaccine shot in Carnesville, GA, and then went to lunch with Chauna's mother Barbara and her friend Toni. With an excellent Longhorn Steak late lunch, we didn't really feel the need to eat dinner that night!

Overall, the weather was generally pleasant although cold at night and we are starting to get the hang of the process. Ryan and Elisabeth stayed in my truck bed trunk tent on Saturday night and were pretty cold with the 26 degree temps overnight. I think I need to upgrade my sleeping bag game for future winter visitors.

Tuesday morning I loaded everything up and drove Valhalla back to the R-Ranch where she'll be for the next 3 weeks.

One thing we plan to do is empty out the trailer and reorganize how and where we keep everything now that we know how we use the trailer.

Fun times in North Georgia!

It was definitely freezing but staying at Vogel State Park was a really cool experience! it was a great campground with a nice stream that made a great noise backdrop for sleeping. Can't wait until the weather warms up so we can enjoy the amenities of Vogel more (I saw a putt-putt course!)
